St. John's Anglican Church

What is the St. John’s Legacy Fund?

The St. John’s Truro Legacy Fund is a general endowment fund to sustain and enhance the long term ministry and mission of St. John’s Anglican Church Truro beyond what would normally be possible through its annual operating budget.

What Does the St. John’s Legacy Fund Do?

The St. John’s Truro Legacy Fund provides Christ’s servants with an opportunity to continue contributing to God’s ministry far beyond their lifetime, and for donors to be recognized by the congregation for service to God within and beyond our walls and beyond their days. The income from the fund is used to serve the needs of the “Mission, Mortar and Ministry” of St. John’s Truro.

What Is Mission, Mortar & Ministry?

Mission is our ‘outreach’ beyond the Church, for example: Parish and community projects consistent with the mission of St. John’s Truro.
Ministry are ‘program initiatives’ within the congregation.
Mortar is ‘major enhancements’ to church facilities and/or unbudgeted maintenance of buildings and grounds.

**Note: The Legacy Fund may be used in extraordinary circumstance to meet unbudgeted emergency needs of the Parish.

How Can I Contribute?

Donations to the Legacy Fund may be bequests by will or living trust, or a charitable gift annuity. Transfer of property (e.g. cash, stocks, bonds, mutual funds, real estate, etc.). Assignment of life insurance and life beneficiary gifts (e.g. RRSPs, RRIFs, TFSAs).

How Do I Make a Legacy Gift?

Making a bequest in your will is the most usual method. This can be a specific dollar amount or a percentage share of your estate. A simple clause added to your will, can make this happen. Here’s an example:

“to pay to St. John’s Truro the sum of $____ to be added to the Legacy Fund of the Church”

You should consult with your lawyer when drafting a will or making a change to an existing will.
There are significant tax benefits to your estate that result from making a voluntary gift to a registered charitable organization such as St. John’s Truro.

Can I direct my contribution to a need important to me?

Yes, gifts may be given in two forms:
1. Unrestricted - You leave no restriction on your gift
2. Restricted - You may designate a specific purpose for your gift and/or a specified term of use. In all cases, every attempt will be made to honour the wishes of the donor.

How will I be remembered?

All donor's names will be added to a permanent list of Legacy Fund contributors and reported to the Annual Meeting of the Parish as well as recorded in the St. John’s Parish office.
