Music within the context of Christian ministry is not based on performance but rather on participation and prayer. In the same way that lay readers lead us in spoken prayer or lectors lead us in proclaiming the Word of God in Scripture, our musicians lead us in our sung prayer. They help to create an atmosphere of reflection in prayer through music. They help us praise our God with voices and bells lifted in anthems of celebration. They help to comfort in hymns of faith and consolation at funerals of our parish members.
St. John's pipe organ dates back to the opening of the new church in 1881 and was designed by S.R. Warren Co. of Toronto. Parts of that original organ still form the basis of the instrument today. When electricity was installed in 1911, a new electric hydraulic motor was installed. Uprgrades were added in 1930 by Woodstock Pipe Organ Builders of Ontario. A new console was built and installed by Casavantes Freres of Ste-Hyacinthe P.Q. in 1957. A comphrehensive overhaul of the instrument was completed between 2003-2005. Our organ continues to serve and enhance worship to this day!
